Which Fencing Tools Do I Need?

If you’re planning on constructing your own fence, the chances are that you’ve thought carefully about the materials you’ll need. Yet it’s equally as important to give the same consideration to the fencing tools you’ll need to see the project through. The right tools will improve the end product and keep you safe as you complete the job.

Spirit level

Most of us have used a spirit level for DIY jobs inside the home, but these are just as handy in the garden, ensuring that your fence is level. This spirit level is reinforced to make it extra durable.

Post hole digger

If you’ve ever used a spade to dig holes for fence posts, you’ll know how laborious a job it is. A post hole digger is one of those ingenious fencing tools you’ll wonder how you ever managed without. They dig away earth and even cut through roots – saving you both time and effort.

Fencing pliers

If you’re constructing a wire fence, one of the key tools you’ll need is a pair of specialist heavy duty pliers. These are used to strain sections of wire fence for a tight finish, and they’ll also cut through the majority of fencing wire and netting. Got a section of old wire fence to dismantle? Fencing pliers are also ideal for removing stubborn staples.

Post rammer

When you need a tool that provides weight and sheer force without the risk of damaging your materials, a post rammer will drive in your fence posts without splitting the timber on impact.

Gloves

Appropriate safety equipment is a must when it comes to erecting fences. It’s advisable to wear gloves to protect your hands from splinters and injury. Specialist gloves will give you the protection you need without compromising grip or range of motion.

Hammer

For closeboard fencing construction, you’re going to be doing a lot of hammering. If you own one already, remember not all hammers are created equal: choose an anti-shock model for protection against injury and pain.
